As some of you may
know, ASCLS is a collaborating partner in an on-line web site entitled
“Lab Tests Online“(
http://www.labtestsonline.org/
You can access this site directly or by going to through an link on the
ASCLS website.) “Lab Tests Online” is the product of a unique
collaboration among professional societies representing the clinical
laboratory community. Organized by the American Association for Clinical
Chemistry (AACC), each member group has supported the development and
content of the site with countless volunteer hours in writing, editing,
and reviewing the material. It is a searchable website designed for ease
of use and understanding. Here, patients can learn about their disease,
the tests used for screening and the tests used for treatment follow-up.
It also contains information on the latest news releases, how a
laboratory works and who works in the lab. An e-mail function allows
visitors to send comments and ask questions. Volunteer members then
research and respond to those e-mails.
This spring, AACC
received word that the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE)
through its Associations Advance America (AAA) program, recognized “Lab
Tests Online” with one of its 2003 Awards of Excellence. |
These AAA Awards are
presented year-round to recognize associations that propel America
forward--with innovative projects in skills training and development;
ethical, technical or professional standards; economic development;
business and social innovation; information and knowledge creation; public
education and information; civic and community volunteer activities; and
citizenship and democracy enhancement. It also honors outstanding
associations and suppliers that take action to improve the quality of
American society through their exemplary volunteer activities.
Receiving this award
makes us eligible and keeps us in the running for one of their eight
Summit Awards. This award recognizes the best of association leadership
in confronting critical education, safety, human needs, and other
challenges facing our country.
In his e-mail to AACC,
George D. Kirkland, CAE, Honorary AAA Awards Chair stated: “In my view,
the award is an acknowledgement of the collaboration among so many
associations as well as your enthusiastic support and unflagging
commitment to patient education and the laboratory profession.
………….congratulations on an honor well-deserved!”, |
